Game of Thrones Season 5 full HD
If you’ve got five minutes to spare and need a refresher on the Game of Thrones saga, here’s a quick breakdown of everything that transpired in season five. Just be cautious of some very NSFW HBO TV-MA content ahead.
Season five opens with Cersei dreaming about a witch’s prophecy that foretells she will one day lose everything she holds dear. That prophecy seems to be coming true as Cersei mourns the deaths of both Tywin and Joffrey while cursing her brother Tyrion. To make matters worse, Cersei is losing influence over her two surviving children. Tommen, never the brightest bulb in the Lannister basket, is infatuated with his new bride, Margaery, while Myrcella is in Dorne, hating her captivity. With Prince Oberyn’s paramour, Obara Sand, reuniting the Sand Snakes and promising vengeance against King’s Landing, the situation becomes increasingly dangerous.
Cersei attempts to solve her problems by sending Jaime and Bronn to Dorne to rescue Myrcella. As for Tommen, she tries to manipulate the rise of a fanatical new religious sect called the Sparrows to her advantage. Initially, this works, as Loras is arrested for homosexuality and Margaery for perjury. Unfortunately, Cersei soon gets a taste of her own medicine when she is arrested by the Sparrows for her incestuous past. After enduring psychological and physical torture, Cersei confesses and is subjected to the humiliating Walk of Shame. To add insult to injury, Myrcella is released by Prince Doran only to be poisoned by the Sand Snakes shortly after.
Cersei’s one piece of good news is that the twisted Qyburn has managed to turn the dying Gregor Clegane into a zombie-like enforcer. However, most of the other power players in Westeros and Essos are facing their own challenges. Daenerys deals with a rebellion in the form of the Sons of the Harpy. One attack claims the life of the old but still formidable Barristan Selmy and leaves Grey Worm seriously wounded. Tyrion and Varys make their way south to ally with Daenerys, only for the disgraced Jorah to kidnap Tyrion in a bid to win back her favor. This sort of works, but not before Jorah is infected with the terminal disease known as greyscale. Meanwhile, Daenerys finds herself stranded in Dothraki territory after being ditched by one of her dragons.
Arya makes her way to Braavos and is accepted into the House of Black and White. However, she struggles with the challenge of leaving her past behind and truly becoming "no one." Her journey is complicated by the total jerk, Jaqen H'ghar, who gives her an assassination mission. Arya goes off script when she spots Meryn Trant. Although she crosses a name off her kill list, Jaqen punishes her for betraying the Faceless Men by blinding her, which seems particularly unfair—though in Game of Thrones, fairness is a rare commodity.
Sansa’s situation is even worse. Littlefinger uses her as a pawn in his schemes, marrying her off to Ramsay Bolton, who quickly rises to the top of the "most disgusting" charts. Sansa’s marriage to Ramsay is as terrible as expected, but the guilt-ridden Theon finally comes to his senses and helps her escape Winterfell.
Farther north at the Wall, Jon Snow refuses to join forces with Stannis Baratheon, sacrificing his chance to become the master of Winterfell in favor of being elected Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Not everyone is thrilled with his promotion, fearing he is too sympathetic to the wildlings. Jon brokers a peace with Tormund Giantsbane and heads north to Hardhome, where he and his fellow Rangers face a devastating White Walker attack. Battered and defeated, the survivors can only watch as their dead comrades are revived by the triumphant Night King.
Stannis’s short-lived attempt to conquer the North ends in failure as Ramsay proves to be a craftier foe. Faced with mounting losses and mass desertions, Stannis sees no choice but to let Melisandre sacrifice his daughter, Shireen, to the Lord of Light. This act, in addition to failing to work, moves Stannis to the top of the disgusting charts—though only temporarily. After his army is crushed by the Boltons, Stannis is killed by Brienne, who finally avenges her original master, Renly, leaving Ramsay Bolton back on top.
This is the chaos that weary Jon Snow returns to at the end of the season. With Maester Aemon dead and Sam sent away to train as his replacement, Jon’s list of allies is growing precariously thin. This becomes painfully clear when he is assassinated by his own men, who leave him to bleed out in the cold winter night. And that’s the last thing we see in season five.
